Values Hold the Tribe (and triiibe) Together

values of tribes and triiibes

A few months ago, I was invited to join Seth Godin’s Triiibes experiment. I haven’t been as good about participating as I should. Hey life as an agency owner, mom, wife, daughter and friend (sometimes) is busy. But what I have seen on triiibes is an amazing openess between the folks that are really engaged. I believe that for that kind of sharing to exist between people who have never met, there has to be a baseline sharing of values. Spoken or unspoken.

About a month ago, we held an agency wide discussion about the book The Four Agreements. We have had many discussion since then about values – and have defined the values that really matter to our team. Here they are:

Creativity

Courage

Accountability

Vision

Dedication

This year’s presidential race seems to have divided this country pretty well into tribes based on what we value most. And it’s pretty clear that a lot of people on Wall Street and in our government didn’t have any values and basically didn’t give a s*** about anyone but themselves. It goes to show you, a tribe without values just can’t last.
