The Battle of Sandwich Promotions Continues

After a couple of months of not really hearing or seeing too many good promotions by Subway or Quiznos, I started to wonder if the promotional battle between them had finally come to an end. Then boom in the last month, Quiznos strikes with not one, but two new promotions. The “Toasty Toasty Sub Sale,” and the $3 torpedo bullet.

They now have five options for $5 and under:

-$5 small sandwiches

-$4 toasty torpedoes

-$3 toasty torpedo bullets

-$2 flatbread sammies

-$1 for a second sandwich

5 Options, All Under $5

Looks like they have something for everyone and for everyone’s budget. Well, something for the people who like Quiznos. I am still a Subway supporter.

The “Toasty Toasty Sub Sale” is a nice way to get people to buy more. However, the commercials are quite misleading. They talk about buy one sandwich, get a second for a $1. But, they fail to mention though that this only applies to four of their sandwiches. Also, you have to get the exact same sandwich. Lame! That pretty much eliminates the possibility of people coming in with a friend. How many people do you know would order the exact same sandwich as you? I sure can’t think of someone that would order the same as me.

It does also promote the idea of eat one now, and eat the second one later. This is what a lot of people do with the footlongs from Subway. Eat half for lunch, the other half for dinner. I do that a lot, even though the second half is never as good. The bread gets soggy.

I do want to see what (if anything) Subway fights back with.

One thing I feel both of these places should do, is adapt KFC’s current promotion: UNTHINK: Taste the unsub side of KFC. With the purchase of grilled chicken, you get a side and a drink, all for $5. I love, love, love the idea of throwing in a side and a drink. I always get chips and a drink at Subway with my sandwich. But, that bumps the total price up to around $7.50. Ouch!

Subway–buy a 6″ sandwich, get chips and a drink, all for $5. Think about it. Do it. Now!

The thing is, I don’t think Subway needs to fight back… they are on top.
