PRSA challenges McCain, Obama campaigns to agree to ethics

I stumbled across this article and found myself reading it to the end. An article about politics that I could actually stomach!

So the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) has challenged the McCain and Obama campaigns to agree to “uphold the highest standards of ethical practice in every facet of their campaign communications” by signing a pledge to abide by the PRSA code of ethics. This is silly, silly that we would ask them to sign something, but even sillier that our election has come to this. So I’ll take it – sign away – and bring communications ethics in the limelight back to the level of ethics we abide by each day.

According to PRSA chair and CEO Jeffrey Julin, “It’s an election year and past cycles seem to have gotten more disrespectful in discourse and further away from the issues and truth. So this request is an observation about where we are. Also, since much of what people think about PR as a profession is driven by what they see in political arena, this seemed like the right time to speak up about the practice and communications to give voters a better election process.”

Halleluiah I say, from both the voter and the PR pro in me.
